A New Version Charlie’s Angels on ABC

A new version Charlie’s Angels on ABC. “Charlie’s Angels” for television, the original hit series, which ran from 1976 to 1981 on ABC, made stars of Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith. The 1970s TV series of Charlie’s Angels was iconic for its portrayal of female empowerment and setting of fashion trends. The features starring Drew Barrymore came at a time just before superhero movies were starting to take off and put kick-ass women in the driver’s seat. Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh were joined by executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar of Smallville fame. Hit the jump to see why this new reboot may be worth watching.

The first TV show starred Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as three, sexy private investigators working for a man named Charlie, who would send them on dangerous missions to catch crooks. Trendsetting in its time, today it seems quaint.

The new ABC show will mark a departure from the series that turned Farrah Fawcett-Majors into a worldwide star and, by showcasing ample amounts of cleavage, inspired the phrase 'jiggle TV.''We want to empower the women, not exploit them,.'Producer Alfred Gough said.

The "essence" of the show "was pleasurable but empowering, sexy but friendly-to-women sexy," she says. "I love things where boys want to watch but girls feel welcome, and that's a very hard thing to succinctly do in anything."
