Facebook launched an application for accessing the online social network on standard cell phones. Built on the Snaptu mobile-app platform, the new Facebook mobile app brings popular features like photos and a familiar user experience to the world's most popular feature phones.
Facebook's latest move in the mobile arena recognizes that most wireless subscribers are not smartphone users, despite all the media attention given to the Apple iPhone and advanced handhelds running Google's Android operating system.
The app works on more than 2,500 devices manufactured by Nokia, Sony Ericsson and LG, the company said in a blog post (http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=483824142130). It allows users to sync their phone and Facebook contacts, scroll through photos, send Facebook messages and read updates.
